When Sue Mackey and Donna Pattullo led a class for the popular organization Springbank Ladies Time Out, called Consignment 101, they didn’t imagine it would become as popular as it did.
“We decided to explore other shops and learn style events that introduced ladies to the world of thrift, vintage, consignment, special events and more in Calgary’s retail arena,” said The Shop Girls in an e-mail.
With that The Shop Girls were born and now work ‘Creating extraordinary shopping experiences for Calgary women while supporting local businesses.’
Why not experience what the Shop Girls have to offer by taking part in The Shop Girls fourth annual Walk & Shop Cochrane starting June 4, 2015. Bring a few friends and enjoy the beautiful weather.
Walk & Shop Cochrane: Four-day shopping extravaganza
After spending a sunny spring lunch in downtown Cochrane, Sue and Donna say it was a no brainer to host an event like this in the historic downtown.
“We found the entire experience so pleasant – from the setting to the friendly shop owners to the amazing variety of retail offerings in this hidden gem of a town,” said the Shop Girls. “We decided our friends would love to know about Cochrane and likely jump at the chance to join us for fellowship and retail/restaurant exploration.”
The Town of Cochrane is behind the event 100 per cent.
In the past they spread the word by putting ads in the local newspaper, helping grow the number of participating retailers and restaurants every year.
“Business participants do not pay a fee to participate in the Walk & Shop, however they do provide a special offer or discount to be listed in the Coupon Book intended to entice the shoppers into their place of business. Over 40 shops and restaurants participate with 14 new names added to the 2015 list. Each store or restaurant creates their own unique offer just for W&S Cochrane.”
Registered participants of the four-day shopping extravaganza are invited to attend the kickoff coffee social on Thursday, June 4th at Legacy Guitar and Coffee House.
Fresh coffee and muffins will be offered, as the Shop Girls hand out their exclusive shopping list – a list of participating companies – as well as an easy-to-follow walking map.
